RIGA - The education sector should not be burdened with constant changes due to Covid-19, said Inga Vanaga, the head of the Latvian Trade Union of Education and Science Employees (LIZDA).

She said that the vaccination rate in the education sector is high, therefore the sector should be allowed "to breathe freely" and work almost as before the pandemic. "The education sector should not be burdened with new changes every week," she said.

Vanaga reminded that LIZDA has sent an open letter to the top state officials, calling for immediate action to avoid a state of emergency in education because teachers are overloaded with new duties due to Covid-19.

Asked whether teachers will receive any bonus payments for work in the Covid-19 pandemic, Vanaga said that such support would be necessary, but unfortunately teachers are not receiving anything right now, but what is planned, is not sufficient.
