RIGA - Despite the geopolitical situation that has affected the transit sector, there are positive changes in Latvian railway sector, said Transport Minister Talis Linkaits at a conference on the railway sector development.
He said that there are improvements in the Latvian railway system, aimed at attracting companies for domestic transportation.
"It is also important to ensure fair competition for road and rail transport," the minister said.
The minister underscored the role of passenger transportation, explaining that railway in Latvia is being developed as the public transport backbone.
Linkaits voiced hopes that these and other changes will promote people to more often use trains, while modernization will attract young specialists to the sector.
