RIGA - The Defense Ministry is calling on young Latvian citizens, aged 18 to 27, to apply by this Saturday for a voluntary enlistment in the national defense service, so they can start their 11-month military training in January 2025, LETA was told at the ministry's press office.
The 11-month service in the National Armed Forces (NAF), which starts in January 2025, will take place in the Staff Battalion, Air Forces and Vidzeme Brigade No.2 of the National Guard.
By June 15, the military plans to recruit up to 200 volunteers for a five-year service in the National Guard and up to 50 university and college students in a reserve officers' training program at a military education institution or in a NAF unit. These training programs are open for voluntary enlistment only once in a year.
