On March 25 at 19:00 at the Ziedonis Hall of the National Library of Latvia the Latvian pianist and composer Krists Saržants is presenting his debut album “THEN AND NOW” to the audience. The album contains original music by Krists Saržants, and the presentation concert will feature a chamber orchestra conducted by Artūrs Gailis, and jazz quintet with Krists Saržants (piano), Evilena Protektore (voice), Dāvis Jurka (saxophone), Toms Poišs (double bass) and Artis Orubs (drums). The audience will also catch a glimpse of Oskars Ozoliņš, Laura Rozenberga, Kristaps Lubovs and Nauris Strežs on wind instruments, as well as special guest artists who have also taken part in the recording – Mārcis Auziņš (guitar), Ieva Kerēvica (voice) and soloist of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Laura Grecka.
“These are the compositions that, with the coming years, helped me grow and grew along with me”, tells the 24-year- old pianist and composer. The album was recorded at a couple of recording sessions during 2019 by many outstanding jazz and classical musicians, along with a Danish drummer Matias Fischer-Mogensen. “Then And Now”, recorded at the Sound Division Studios and Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, features 11 compositions: 8 original works of Krists Saržants, as well as author’s arrangements of the Latvian “Jūriņ šņāca, jūriņ krāca”, Estonian and Danish compositions. One of the songs, “My Love Is Building A Building”, is included in the official compilation CD “Jazz in Latvia 2020”, which is to be presented to the wide audience on an international level.

Krists Saržants is a Latvian composer and pianist who takes his inspiration from classical, jazz and film music. Started his studies in jazz piano and composition with Raimonds Petrauskis, Andris Dzenītis, Madars Kalniņš, Tuomo Uusitalo and Kārlis Vanags at Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music High-school and Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, and Søren Møller at The Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg, Denmark. In 2018 Krists was nominated for the Nic Gotham Award for the contribution to jazz music and culture in Latvia, as well as represented Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music at the IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz) in Viljandi, Estonia. In 2019 he was the opening artist for the 2019 TEDx conference in Riga, Latvia.
While performing in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark, Germany, USA, the Netherlands and other countries, Krists has collaborated with Kenneth Dahl Knudsen (DK), Rob Duguay (US), Yacine Boularès (US), Konstantīns Jemeļjanovs (LV/US), Peter Hertmans (BE), Etienne Charles (US) and many others. His recordings were distributed worldwide at the largest European jazz gathering “Jazzahead! 2017” and included in the official “Jazz in Latvia 2018” and “Jazz in Latvia 2020” CD compilations.
