RIGA - Amendments permitting local residents to drive cars with foreign license plates against payment of a tax come into force from today. The effective legislation prohibits Latvian citizens, Latvian non-citizens, and holders of Latvian residence permits from a use of motor vehicles with permanent foreign registration, with few exceptions when they can apply for a permission from the Road Safety Directorate to drive such vehicles in Latvia.
