RIGA - Taking into account the progress in vaccination and, if necessary, implementing temporary or localized restrictions, there are reasonable hopes that there will not be another Covid-19 wave in the autumn, President Egils Levits said in the closing speech of the spring session of the Saeima today.

The President pointed out that after the initial delay in vaccination, Latvia will soon reach the rest of Europe in this process.

Levits said that loved ones and friends have been lost due to Covid-19. Residents have also financially been negatively impacted by the crisis, according to the President.

He noted that on the one hand, Latvia has weathered the Covid-19 crisis quite well, because the country has had a smaller economic downturn than the European average, but on the other hand, Estonia and Lithuania have smaller reductions in gross domestic product.
