KYIV - Germany does not see the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as a political project and insists on preserving gas transport from Russia to Europe via Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said.

"We do not view [Nord Stream 2], in which a lot of European companies are involved, and not only from Germany, as a political project," Maas said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Kyiv on Friday.

"Transport via Ukraine should be preserved," he said.
