MINSK - Belarus and Latvia have to organize to the best world ice-hockey championship ever in 2021, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov told his visiting Latvian counterpart Maris Kucinskis (Greens/Farmers) in Minsk today.

“We are looking forward to 2021 when we will be hosting the world ice-hockey championship together,” Belta news agency quoted Kobyakov as saying. “We are delighted that our joint bid won [the competition to host the championship]. Now we have taken the most serious approach to preparing for the event. Our countries already have experience in this - world ice-hockey championships have already been held in both in Belarus and Latvia, so now we must organize the best event yet”.

As reported, Kucinskis is visiting Belarus today and tomorrow.

The joint bid of Riga and Minsk to co-host the world ice-hockey championship in 2021 won in tough competition with the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Tampere.

Riga hosted the annual tournament in 2006 and Minsk in 2014.
