RIGA - Today, Arena Riga and the Olympic Sports Center will be completely handed over for the needs of this year's Ice Hockey World Championships, the director of the Education and Science Ministry's Sports Department Edgars Severs told members of the press.
He stated that at the meeting of the organizing committee, the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) confirmed that the "sporting side" of the tournament is moving forward very well. The International Hockey Federation (IIHF) has also not expressed any concerns about the level of quality of the tournament.
Regarding infrastructure issues, Severs said that both the Olympic Sports Center and Arena Riga will be ready for the first practices.
The Ice Hockey World Championships will kick-off in Riga on May 21, with the final scheduled for June 6.
