airBaltic flight taking Latvian president to Moldova will return with Ukrainian refugees

RIGA - An airBaltic flight that is scheduled to take President Egils Levits on a visit to Moldova and deliver humanitarian aid to Chisinau's refugee center, will return to Riga with Ukrainian refugees on board. 

Justine Deicmane, head of the president's press office, informed LETA that Levits is scheduled to make a working visit to Moldova this Thursday, April 7 to discuss with Moldovan President Maia Sandu the current geopolitical and security situation, bilateral relations and Moldova's reforms. 

The Latvian president will be accompanied on the trip by Interior Minister Marija Golubeva (Development/For) and State Border Guard chief General Guntis Pujats who will meet with Moldova's interior minster and leadership of the Moldovan Border Police. 

Latvia's national airline airBaltic has responded to the request to deliver Latvia's humanitarian aid to Moldova and to fly Ukrainian war refugees on the return flight to Riga. 

airBaltic CEO Martin Gauss noted that many Ukrainian refugees are seeking a safe place to stay until they can return to their home country.
