RIGA - The aim of Latvia's strategic communication is to make our country and its people more resilient to disinformation of various kinds and distortions of the communication environment, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) said at a news conference Tuesday.

The government on Tuesday reviewed a conceptual report on national strategic communication and the security of the information environmental 2023-2027. "Obviously, Russia's aggression against Ukraine is not just artillery shells flying through the air but also what is being spread in the communication environment," the prime minister said.

The government together with the strategic communication department and other experts is therefore planning training and seminars for public officials to improve the security of the information environment.

Karins noted that this is a "new and complementary defense direction in the communication environment in addition to our military security and our internal security".
