RIGA - 75 percent of Latvia's residents are planning to celebrate Christmas at home and spend up to EUR 150 on their Christmas dinner, representatives of SEB Banka informed LETA, citing the findings of a survey commissioned by the bank.

As usual, the majority of respondents prefer to spend Christmas with their family or friends at home. Only 4 percent of respondents will be traveling on Christmas, while 3 percent will celebrate Christmas at a restaurant.

Celebrating Christmas at home is equally popular among all age groups, while traveling on Christmas is slightly more popular with respondents aged 50-59.

SEB Banka's financial literacy mentor Linda Sablinska says that this year, compared to last year, the number of people who will try to spend no more than EUR 50 on their Christmas dinner has slightly increased to 21 percent.

The survey has also found that increasingly more people in Latvia opt to go to a forest to cut their Christmas tree, and this year 29 percent of respondents said they would do so. One in five plan to buy a Christmas tree, while another 8 percent will decorate a tree growing near their home.

At the same time, one in four respondents prefer an artificial Christmas tree, while one in ten will decorate their homes without a Christmas tree at all.

The survey was carried out by Norstat in November 2024 by interviewing 1,003 respondents aged 18-74.
