54 education institutions will be closed or reorganized in Latvia by next school year

RIGA - By the beginning of next school year, 54 municipal education institutions will be reorganized or closed, according to the information from the Education and Science Ministry.

The ministry is informed about 69 decision in relation of reorganization or liquidation of education institutions, 54 of them will be reorganized by this September, seven by September 2025 and six more - by September 2026.

This past school year was the last one for 34 education institution, several of them though will be merged with other education institutions.

One new education institution - a preschool Auseklitis in Riga - will be opened this year.

The decisions on opening, reorganization or liquidation of education institutions are made by local governments who then inform the Education and Science Ministry to coordinate these decisions.
