Tallinn to finance film campus, conference grants to boost business environment

TALLINN – The City of Tallinn is about to borrow money in 2023 to finance the construction of Tallinn Film Wonderland, which should be completed by 2024, and has created a subsidy measure to boost the development of the business environment by supporting conference tourism.

The Tallinn 2023 budget, adopted by the city council, has earmarked financial resources for Tallinn Industrial Parks to start construction of a film campus. In 2023, the city plans to finance the construction of the Tallinn Film Wonderland with a loan.

Deputy Mayor Joosep Vimm described Tallinn Film Wonderland as important for the film industry and the wider business environment.

"The Film Wonderland will be the next step for the film industry, but it will also be a launch pad for the future of Paljassaare. Successful film production in Tallinn will also create jobs in other sectors, for example there is great potential to support our tourism sector with high quality films," Vimm said in a  press release published by the city government.

In autumn 2022, a support measure for conference tourism was created to attract more conference tourists to Tallinn. The maximum amount of support is planned to be up to 30,000 euros per conference. Tallinn will start supporting international conferences in the city next year. The first call for applications has been launched and is open until Jan. 25.
