According to Inese Kalvane, the head of the Latvian State Employment Agency (NVA), refugees who register with the organisation to seek work will be provided with the Latvian language courses.

Kalvane made the statement on Latvian national television on November 30, 2015.

She added that the first refugees may register with the agency as early as summer 2016.

Kalvane also said that the NVA has planned its work so it is able to ensure the necessary support job seekers after they receive refugee status.

The Latvian government and the Latvian parliamentary committee on European affairs have supported the plan by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, for dealing with the migration crisis in Europe under which Latvia would admit up to 776 asylum seekers from Africa and the Middle East.
