PARK CITY, USA– Martins Dukurs finished third in the third round of the skeleton world cup on Thursday.
It is the second time Martins has found himself on the podium in as many weeks, after finishing atop the podium in Calgary last Thursday. Younger brother Tomass finished back in seventh spot.
Sitting in third spot after his first run with a time of 49.24 seconds Martins took to the ice for his second run hoping to move up the ladder. But a blistering 49.11 seconds second run by Russian Alexander Tretiakov who had been sitting back in sixth following his first run gave him an unassailable lead atop the podium with a total time of 1:38.48.
Although Martins could displace Tretiakov, it looked like his total time following his second run of 1:38.50 would be enough to see him hold on to second place, only to be bumped down a place by the final person to take to the ice, German Sandro Stielicke.
Sitting in seventh after his first run, Tomass could not move up the ladder following his second, remaining where he was with a total time of 1:38.74
The third placing see Martins anchored amongst the leading contenders to take honors at the end of the season but for the mean time his and his brother’s attention will turn to Lake Placid, USA where they compete next week.
