Lithuania's Interior Vice-Minister Elvinas Jankevicius, who was in charge of migration matters, has resigned, the interior minister confirmed to BNS on Tuesday.
"Yesterday was his last day in office. The vice-minister submitted resignation, and I satisfied it," Minister Tomas Zilinskas said.
The minister did not comment on the reasons behind Jankevicius' resignation, saying he was expecting the ruling Social Democratic Party to propose candidates for the post.
In Zilinskas' words, the decision to dismiss the vice-minister was made with consent from the Social Democrats' leader, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius.
Butkevicius' spokeswoman told BNS Lithuania that Jankevicius had "notified the prime minister he wanted to shift his focus to elections" to parliament scheduled for October.
