Estonian Defence Forces to Receive Modern Supply Warehouses in Tartu County

Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) in collaboration with AS Nordecon, is developing modern military warehouses in Tartu County. These facilities will enhance the rapid deployment capabilities of equipment as required. The construction of these warehouse buildings is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

"With the new warehouses, we will significantly enhance our forces' responsiveness and maintain equipment in optimal conditions," stated Peeter Karja, Southern Portfolio Manager at ECDI. He further noted that defence readiness in Estonia will see a substantial improvement this year, not only due to the supply warehouses but also because of the completion of administrative and training buildings at the Raadi military base.

These storage facilities are designed to create ideal conditions for the long-term storage of weapons and equipment. "The new spaces are specifically engineered to allow for cost-effective control of humidity and temperature, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity of our equipment," Karja explained. Additionally, the integration of rooftop solar parks will minimize energy consumption.

Colonel Mati Tikerpuu, commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, highlighted upcoming enhancements to the brigade's capabilities, including the acquisition of additional self-propelled artillery, new armoured vehicles, anti-tank systems, and ammunition. "The construction of these new warehouses significantly bolsters the combat readiness of our defence forces. All equipment, armaments, and ammunition are strategically stored and can be swiftly redeployed when needed," Tikerpuu added.

The construction project involves thousands of workers, all dedicated to achieving a successful outcome. "Creating a new, comprehensive high-level military base across several hectares within a year poses a significant challenge. We are grateful for the trust placed in us by our clients," said Tarmo Pohlak, a board member of Nordecon AS.

The military base territories in Southern Estonia cover an area of 330 hectares. From 2023 to 2026, the total investment in Southern Estonia is projected to be approximately 102 million euros.
