Equus, Riga

Equus, meaning horse in Latin, was chosen to mark the history of the restaurant’s location. The fabled Baron Munchausen, who was keen to tell embellished tales about his adventures around the world, allegedly kept his horse stables right where the hotel restaurant stands today.

A special charm is created by synergy joining the historical architecture with a modern interior. The subtle and elegant interior is thoroughly Scandinavian, combining warm wood, sober brick walls and neutral natural colors in a chic tribute to local patterns. The adaptable restaurant rooms, for their part, are divided by glass doors, which can be closed for small, intimate gatherings, or left open for larger events.

An inviting open kitchen provides the relaxation of observation (food prepared on a Josper grill). The menu also is a combination of Scandinavian and Latvian. Equus also serves “tapestries” of small snacks and appetizers, similar to the popular Spanish tapas. These are served on unique tableware that was created in collaboration with an established local ceramics company – Raunas Ceplis.

Equus is much more than a restaurant – here you will find a winery, a bar, two cigar salons, Tea Deli with its 20 exclusive types, and tea-serving ceremonies performed by masters of the art, and even a bookstore. The wine section of Equus is proud of its 400 global brands selected by expert staff.

Equus restaurant is located in the recently-opened Pullman Riga Old Town Hotel, at 24 Jekaba Street. Reservations can be made online: www.equus.lv, by phone: +37167815440, or via email: [email protected]
