Vilnius Municipality began dismantling the electricity and heating generator built from Jewish gravestones on Olandu Street Wednesday.
The deconstruction was started by Vilnius’ mayor, Remigijus Simasius, who personally removed the first stone.
The generator was built by the Soviet authorities of Lithuania between 1965 and 1968, who bulldozed the Jewish cemetery on Olandu Street for the stones.
