Vytautas Landsbergis was born on October 18, 1932 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
1955 - graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatory of Music (now Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre);
1969 - wrote a thesis for doctor's degree;
1978 - became a professor at the Lithuanian Conservatory;
1978-1990 - a professor at both the Lithuanian Conservatory and the Vilnius Pedagogical University;
1994 - wrote a thesis for Doctor habilitus degree.
1988 - co-founder of Sajudis, the Lithuanian pro-independence political movement;
1990 - Chairman of the Supreme Council of Lithuania;
11 March 1990 - headed the Parliamentary session during which the independence of Lithuania was declared;
1990-1992 - Chairman of the Supreme Council of Lithuania, Head of State according to the temporary Constitution of Lithuania;
1993-2003 - leader of Homeland Union Party, Lithuania;
1996-2000 - Speaker of the Seimas (Parliament of Lithuania);
2004 - member of the European Parliament.
