Sandra Kalniete was born on December 22, 1952 in Togur, Tomsk Oblast, Soviet Union.
1981 - graduated from Latvian Academy of Art, worked as an art historian;
1989 - published a book Latvian textile art;
1992 - graduated the Institute for International Studies, Leeds University;
1995 - graduated the Institute of International Studies, University of Geneva;
1996 - obtained a master's degree from Art Academy of Latvia.
2002-2004 - Foreign Minister of Latvia;
2004 - Latvian Commissioner of the European Union, Agriculture and Fisheries;
2006 - Joined the New Era party, was elected to Saeima (Parliament of Latvia);
2008 - left the New Era party and joined Civic Union and became its leader;
2009 - member of the European Parliament for Latvia.
