Edgar Savisaar was born on May 31, 1950 in Harku, Estonian SSR.
1973 - graduated from the University of Tartu with degree in history;
1980 - wrote a candidate thesis in philosophy.
1980-1988 - work in planning of economy in state organizations;
1988-1989 - academic director of "Mainor";
1989 - co-founder of Popular Front (Rahvarinne). It was the first political party apart from the Communist Party, established in the Soviet Union after 1920; Later this year became the Vice-Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Estonian SSR and the Head of the State Plan Committee;
1990 - Minister of Economic Affairs. Later same year - Chairman of the Council of Ministers;
1991-1992 - the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia;
1992-1995 - Vice-Speaker of the Estonian Parliament;
1996 - the Chairman of the Tallinn City Council;
2001-2004 - Mayor of Tallinn;
2005-2007 - Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications;
2007-2011 - Mayor of Tallinn.
