Pandemonium on the streets of Riga last night, as fans celebrate historical win

RIGA - There was pandemonium outside Arena Riga and later in the streets of Riga last night, as Latvian ice hockey fans celebrated their historical win over Sweden in the quarterfinals of the Ice Hockey World Championships, LETA observed.

Around 100 ice hockey fans also gathered outside the Swedish Embassy in Riga, where they sang songs and laid flowers. Swedish Ambassador Karin Hoglund even came out to meet with the fans, who admitted she was not happy with the loss, but was in good spirits.

Several police officers were at the scene, but their involvement was not necessary, as all were in good spirits.

The movement of cheerful fans of the Latvian national team were seen in the streets of Riga, shouting slogans and signaling to drivers, but no hooliganism was reported.
