Lithuanian Jonas Mekas honored for achievements

On Oct. 30, Lithuanian Jonas Mekas, artistic director of Anthology Film Archives on Second Avenue in New York celebrated 50 years as a programmer of avant-garde cinema. The Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania Mindaugas Butkus was on hand for the celebration to present Mekas a "Didysis Kryzius" (Great Cross) award in recognition of his literary and artistic contributions to Lithuania.In looking back, Jonas Mekas recalled many of the small details relating to his early film programming."The year was 1953.
