Man tries to shoot himself with frying-pan

Jun 29, 2000

VILNIUS (BNS) - A Lithuanian man under the influence of alcohol tried to commit suicide leaning upon a frying-pan where a cartridge was heated.

The 57-year-old resident of Siauliai, northern Lithuania, put a frying-pan on a gas-stove, stood a cartridge on the frying-pan and leaned upon it waiting for it to fire.

The Lietuvos Rytas daily reported that the heated cartridge exploded in several minutes, however, the suicide was too drunk to hold his head above the cartridge. The bullet went past him, only grazing his lip and cheek.

He underwent a minor surgery and was examined by a psychiatrist.

The man said that he had bought the bullet from Soviet troops who were deployed in Siauliai 10 years ago.
