Protesters demand release of red guerrilla Kononov

RIGA (BNS) - On Aug. 13 almost 100 people rallied outside the United States Embassy in the Latvian capital Riga to protest against the imprisonment of the former red guerrilla Vassily Kononov.The protesters gathered across the street from the embassy and waved posters saying: "Kononov's arrest is a justification of fascism," and "Kononov's case - Gestapo and KGB traditions."Ten protesters held a red streamer proclaiming "freedom to the political convict Vassily Kononov" in Russian.The protesters ...
