A state of emergency has been declared in a Latvian region after a river flood hit homes.

Seven people have been evacuated from their homes after the River Urga overflowed under heavy rain on Wednesday. The home owners have been transported to safe areas.

A total of 120 houses have been surveyed whilst water levels are still being monitored.

Residents affected by the flooding have been urged to apply for shelter on 2 Slimnicas Street.
