Folklore groups from nine countries to take part in festival in Latvia

RIGA (BNS) - Folklore groups from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland,
Hungary, Lithuania, Mordovia, Norway and Taiwan will take part in the
international folklore festival Baltica '2000 to be held in Latvia
from July 5 to 9, organizers of the festival reported to BNS.

The theme of the festival this year is the sea.

The festival will take place in different locations in Latvia. On
July 5, the participants of the festival will gather in the
northeastern Latvian town of Cesis for the Get-acquainted Day to meet
with each other. On July 6, the Water Spring Day will be marked in
the central Latvian town of Sigulda, but on July 7, the festival will
move to Latvia's northern coast for the Sea Day in Salacgriva and
Saulkrasti towns.

On July 8, the Castle Day will be marked in four different locations
in northeastern Latvia. On July 9 the festival will be dedicated to
the Latvian capital, Riga.

During the festival, a seminar will also be held to discuss vital
issues of preserving and developing the culture heritage of ethnic
groups.
