Latvian police have conducted their final day of investigations at the collapsed Maxima supermarket that killed 54 people last year.

The disaster was Latvia's worst since it gained independence, when the roof of a supermarket collapsed on shoppers last November.

State police have been  retrieving material evidence from the site of the collapsed Maxima supermarket building in Riga's Zolitude neighborhood since last November.

Commenting about the investigation in the tragedy, a police spokesman said expert opinion could be presented to the public in the latter half of this fall.

Investigations in two criminal cases remain active. One deals with the circumstances of the tragic collapse of the building, the other with the employer's insufficient attention and care to prevent the tragedy. No one has been detained in these criminal cases so far.
