Salaries and pensions set to rise in Lithuania
Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius

Salaries and pensions are set to rise in Lithuania later this year, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius has said

"Pensions will rise next year but I cannot tell you the exact month. Pension bases and insured income will be increased by LTL 10 (2.9 euros)," Butkevicius said in an interview to the Ziniu Radijas radio.

It will be announced in September how much the average monthly salary will grow, the PM said.

"The basic monthly salary will be increased for people working in the public sector under employment contracts. I can assure you that cultural employees whose salaries were increased from 1 July will also see payment rise if the basic rate grows," Butkevicius added.

"The whole package has to be submitted in September by the minister of social security and labor after coordinating with finance minister."

The prime minister said that illness and maternity payment would also grow as part of the plans.

The current basic pension of the state social insurance is LTL 360 (104 euros). The minimum monthly salary is LTL 1,000 (290 euros). The basic monthly salary is LTL 122 (350 euros).
