Three new borns were left in baby boxes during the Ligo holidays, a representative for the project "Baby Box - A Place for a Baby's Life" has said.

Two baby boys were left in the Riga baby box between June 20-21. On  June 23, a two-week old newborn was left in the Madona baby box.

The controversial baby box was set up at the Children's Clinical University Hospital in Riga due to the high number of babies being abandoned. Parents are able to leave the newly borns anonymously if they're not able to look after them.

This is the first time in the project's history that three babies are left in baby boxes within five days. Since 2009, 28 babies have been left in baby boxes in Latvia.
