Baltics record lowest GDP’s in Europe

Latvia has recorded the fourth lowest GDP per capita in Europe, new figures from Eurostat show.

The Baltic state recorded 67 percent of the average GDP per capita in the European Union last year. Lithuania had the sixth lowest GDP per capita in the EU in 2013 - 74 percent of the EU average, whilst Estonia had the fifth lowest - 72 percent of the EU average.

Elsewhere, Bulgaria registered the lowest GDP per capita in the EU last year - 47 percent of the EU average, Romania - 54 percent of the EU average, whilst Croatia - 61 percent.

Luxembourg had the highest GDP per capita in the EU in 2013 - 264 percent of the EU average, followed by Austria - 129 percent of the EU average, and the Netherlands and Sweden - each 127 percent of the EU average.
