Latvians unaware of Riga as European culture capital

Almost half (45 percent) of Latvian residents are unaware of the fact that Riga is the European Capital of Culture this year, according to a research conducted by TNS in collaboration with LNT, reports LETA.

The same percentage of respondents (45 percent), asked if they are aware that Riga is the European Capital of Culture 2014, said they were, but one tenth of Latvian residents did not provide a specific answer to this question.

The majority of respondents admitted that they have not attended any of the events dedicated to Riga as the European Capital of Culture. When asked if they plan to attend any of them, 36 percent of respondents, who have not previously been to a "Riga 2014" event, said that they are planning to do so, but 30 percent said they will not attend any.

Seventeen percent of respondents have already enjoyed a "Riga 2014" event and plan to do so again, but 3 percent do not plan to attend them again. Fourteen percent of respondents did not provide any specific answer.

The survey was carried out from June 3 - 5, surveying 600 Latvian residents, ages 18-55, online.
