Latvian football team moves up a bit in latest FIFA rankings

The Latvian national men's football team has moved up four spots in the latest FIFA rankings and is currently ranked 109th.

This is Latvia's highest ranking since March 2013, when Latvia was ranked 108th.

However, just five months ago, Latvia dropped to its lowest ever ranking - 119th.

In August 2012, Latvia was ranked 70th in the FIFA rankings.

Latvia currently has 273 ranking points.

Since the previous rankings, Latvia lost a friendly to Macedonia 1:2.

Latvia will play its next competitive match at the end of May, when it will participate in the bi-annual Baltic Cup tournament.

Meanwhile, Estonia has dropped one spot in the rankings to 93rd, Lithuania - up one spot to 104th.

Spain is ranked first in the rankings, followed by Germany, Portugal and Colombia.

Uruguay is ranked fifth, followed by Argentina, Brazil, Switzerland, Italy and Greece.

Mentioning Latvia's group opponents in the EURO 2016 qualification campaign, the Netherlands is ranked 15th, the Czech Republic is ranked 36th, Turkey is ranked 39th, Iceland is ranked 58th, while Kazakhstan is ranked 118th.
