Ventspils police chief suspended on corruption case

Latvia’s Corruption Prevention Bureau has started a criminal process against the State Police's Ventspils Administration Chief Girts Kokins, said State Police's Kurzeme Region Administration press officer Signe Steinberga, reports LETA.

Kokins has been suspended from his job, added Steinberga. No further information will be released for the time being.

LETA has been unable to get in touch with Kokins on the phone, his colleagues also declined to comment saying they did not know if Kokins had been arrested.

Kokins was appointed chief of the Ventspils Police Administration in the summer of 2011. Before that he was the head of the Ventspils Criminal Police Department.
