At the IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) Assembly, taking place in Geneva, Chair of the Lithuanian parliamentary delegation Vytautas Gapsys expressed a strong position by Lithuania in the context of the crisis in Ukraine, reports ELTA.

The MP stressed that Lithuania has condemned Russia's actions in Ukraine during the annexation of the Crimean region and called on the international community and institutions to mobilize and to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and defend the fundamental principles of international law.

"Russia's actions against the sovereignty of Ukraine pose a threat to peace and stability in the whole region," said Gapsys. He also expressed Lithuania's support to the new Ukrainian government and Parliament in this difficult, yet historically significant period and condemned the disinformation campaign conducted by Russia over the situation in Ukraine.

The IPU is the international organization of Parliaments, which brings together Parliaments from 164 states and closely cooperates with the United Nations. From March 16-20, the 130th Assembly is taking place in Geneva, where Lithuania is represented by Gapsys and MP Agne Bilotaite.
