The young and promising Latvian football striker Valerijs Sabala has reached agreement on joining Belgium's Club Brugge, said Vladimirs Kolesnicenko, president of the football club Skonto that Sabala currently plays for.

Kolesnicenko informed via social networks that the 19-year-old Sabala had already signed contract with Club Brugge.

Last season, Sabala scored fifteen goals in the SMScredit.lv Latvian Higher League, becoming the tournament's third highest-scoring player.

Sabala has also played in eight games for the national football team, scoring three goals.

Sabala was one of the leading "Skonto" players, and the club hopes that the deal will help it settle its debt obligations.

Previously, Skonto midfielder Aleksandrs Fertovs signed with Ukraine's football club Sevastopol, whilst defender Nauris Bulvitis and midfielder Alans Sinelnikovs will continue their careers in Swiss and Czech higher league clubs.

Club Brugge is currently in third place in Belgian Pro League. The club also regularly plays in UEFA tournaments.
