Artis Pabriks:

Outgoing Latvian defense minister Artis Pabriks has said he would be willing to have a go at becoming Prime Minister of Latvia in the future despite losing a seat in the new government.

Latvian President Andris Berzins turned down the suggestion of inviting Pabriks, a former foreign minister, to head the new government. Laimdota Straujuma, Latvia's first ever female Prime Minister and former agriculture minister instead took the role of Prime Minister candidate.

"I will remain in politics," said Pabriks who will run in European Parliament elections this year.

Responding to whether that meant he would apply for the role of Prime Minister. He said: "After the last attempt, the appetites of politicians are only growing. I would never say no."

Pabriks also touched on the issue of Russia-Baltic relations, after the former banned Latvian dairy products from crossing their borders, saying "We're not afraid of Russia."
