Latvian businessman Gunars Kirsons has shut down his new 1.5 million euro restaurant Kirsons Maja after admitting the building hadn't been accepted in to service by authorities.

At a press conference on Dec. 2, Kirsons, who also owns the Lido restaurant, said he was taking full responsibility for his actions.

Kirsons explained he had hoped to have the building cleared in a few days after opening, but added the building was perfectly safe for customers. The Riga Construction Board has indicated only eight shortcomings, none of which dealt with the building housing the restaurant.

The Kirsons Maja complex in Riga's Purvciems suburb consists of an eatery and a food store.

Kirsons Maja is run by the company MC Horeca Holding, established on Sept. 17 last year. Kirsons holds 50.05 percent of the company's shares and Vladimirs Sestakovs' company Capital Investments the other 49.95 percent, according to Firmas.lv data.
