Ruutel receives peace prize

Estonian ex-President Arnold Ruutel received on Nov. 27 in Manila, Philippines, Asia’s most important prize - Gusi Peace Prize - for statesmanship, reports Delfi. The Gusi Peace Award homepage states that a defender of Estonia’s sovereignty in the former U.S.S.R., Ruutel played an important role in uniting his people and political forces in their struggle for independence.

Ruutel received the award in the category of statesmanship.

The Gusi Peace Prize is a charitable foundation, an institution based in Manila, Philippines, registered at the Security and Exchange Commission, whose main objective is to give proper recognition through the conferment of awards of excellence and distinction to individuals or groups worldwide who have distinguished themselves as brilliant exemplars of society or who contributed toward the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity.
