Litvak Congress gets underway

VILNIUS - On Sept. 20, the Fourth World Litvak Congress will be launched in Vilnius, reports ELTA. The congress will be attended by descendants of Jews from Israel, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Argentina and Brazil. The Congress is dedicated to the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto in 1943.
Over fifty events will take place during the Congress from Sept. 20-25.

On Sept. 22, an international conference on the historic role of the Litvaks in Lithuania, and perspectives for the future Litvak diaspora followed by a roundtable discussion with ambassadors stationed in Vilnius will be held.

On Sept. 23, a ceremony honoring the victims of the Holocaust at the Paneriai Memorial will take place. The following day a ceremony at the Parliament in commemoration of the seventieth anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto will take place.
