RIGA - Latvia’s Economy Ministry is proposing a new tax on those electricity producers that are subsidized by the state, reports Nozare.lv. This will make it possible to keep the mandatory procurement component in check; the ministry has also developed a new aid system to help cover electricity costs for low-income households, it says.The ministry proposes that a tax of 14 percent apply to cogeneration plants, whereas companies producing electricity from renewable resources will be charged a 10 percent tax rate.
