Vilks: Latvia will play decisive role on Baltic Sea region market

RIGA - Latvia and its residents have achieved much and the country will have a decisive role on the growing Baltic Sea region market after joining the eurozone and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Finance Minister Andris Vilks (Unity) pointed out during the 10th Baltic Conference of the Joint Baltic American National Committee in Washington, reports LETA.

Vilks addressed conference participants, emphasizing the government's tasks aimed at overcoming the crisis in 2008-2011. The minister stressed the importance of government priorities and decisions for Latvia's further economic growth, LETA was informed by the Finance Ministry's spokesman Aleksis Jarockis.

Vilks also drew attention to further Latvian, Baltic and Baltic Sea region growth and the region's decisive role in the European Union's economic development during the next few years. In this regard, the minister accentuated Latvia's structural reforms and successfully developed export opportunities, which currently play a decisive role in the country's long-term economic growth.

The Joint Baltic American National Committee holds its conference biennially, reviewing important matters in the Baltic Sea region.
