Saeima committee reverses progress on gas market liberalization

RIGA - The Saeima Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee, which on Feb. 27 agreed to postpone moves towards gas market liberalization, has essentially ensured for Latvian consumers that the monopoly in the gas market in Latvia will stay in place, energy expert Juris Ozolins said to the business news portal Nozare.lv. He emphasized that liberalization is always just an idea at the beginning, before being put on paper to be implemented.
