The Roman Catholic world was startled last week to learn that Pope Benedict XVI, theoretical shepherd to the world’s hundreds of millions of Catholics, would be resigning his post at the end of this month. As far as I’m concerned personally, good riddance. The current pope was born Joseph Ratzinger.
