The Roman Catholic world was startled last week to learn that Pope Benedict XVI, theoretical shepherd to the world’s hundreds of millions of Catholics, would be resigning his post at the end of this month. As far as I’m concerned personally, good riddance.The current pope was born Joseph Ratzinger. He was a member of the Hitler youth movement in advance of World War II, though he claimed in later years that someone signed him up for it without his own knowledge. I suppose that may be true, but the job that the man held before becoming pope was rather fascist in and of it...
