RIGA - If the European Union is not prepared to accept Latvia's requirements regarding the cohesion funding and payments to farmers, the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) will demand that Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) veto the EU multiannual budget, MP Iveta Grigule (ZZS) said during a foreign policy debate in the parliament today.

Dombrovskis must keep his promises and achieve that cohesion funding in the bloc's 2014-2020 budget be kept unchanged and that direct area payments to farmers constitute 80 percent of the EU average, stressed Grigule.

If the EU does not listen, ZZS will demand that Dombrovskis uses Latvia's right to veto the EU budget, explained Grigule.

Commenting the euro project, Grigule said that the "wedge between the nation and the government" had already been driven deep enough, and that the nation should be given the opportunity to decide the fate of the project through a referendum.
