Grybauskaite: Lithuania has to make international commitments to protect children from sexual abuse

VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite submits for the Seimas ratification the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.

Although this convention was adopted on October 25 in 2007, Lithuania has not ratified it yet.

Grybauskaite says that additional measures to fight against the sexual exploitation of minors are necessary; therefore Lithuania must affirm international commitments.

The convention is one of the measures to prevent sexual exploitation of children and sexual violence.

Having ratified European Council's Convention Lithuania will have to adopt additional legislation fighting against sexual exploitation of minors and to commit to take other effective measures.
