RIGA - Latvia hopes that NATO will extend the patrol of Baltic airspace for an indefinite period of time, President Andris Berzins told the press today after a meeting with Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity), reports LETA.

The president expressed hope that such an agreement will be made by the next NATO Summit in Chicago.

This issue will also be on the agenda during NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen's visit to the Baltics on Jan. 19-20.

In 2009, the NATO Council extended the alliance's patrol of Baltic airspace until 2014.
