TALLINN – A proposal to sack 24 Estonian language teachers is expected to cause a major shake up in education in the mainly Russian-speaking northeast. The Education Ministry has recommended sacking 24 teachers from the Ida Virumaa region because of their poor command of Estonian. A further 36 have been given until the start of the new school year to improve their language knowledge.
